World likely to breach 1.5°C global warming threshold sooner than we think, meteorologists warn

The Weather Meteorological Organisation (WMO) said on May 17, 2023 that the world is likely to see 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7°F) of warming within the next five years, as global temperatures warm at a faster pace than previously predicted and move in the “wrong direction”. However, the WMO says there’s room to fluctuate below the threshold again, which was a goal set out in the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
