“The Home Ministry very quickly gave its approval. Usually, it takes a long time. Many people said they should not be released. Technically, they were within their rights, but what does it mean? It means you are accepting a heinous crime. This is a weak argument in their support,” says Subhashini Ali, one of the petitioners in the Bilkis Bano case on the release of the 11 convicts for their “good behaviour”.
