The Philippines has granted the United States expanded access to its military bases, both countries said on February 2, 2023. The agreement was announced after US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Manila for talks with his Philippine counterpart Carlito Galvez, as well as President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr, as the long-time allies seek to counter China’s military rise.
