US officials say Washington is prioritising efforts to gather information from debris of a Chinese balloon that was shot down on February 4, 2023. The US Coast Guard imposed a temporary security zone in waters off the state of South Carolina while the military conducts a search and recovery operation to find pieces of the unmanned airship. Washington said China was using the balloon for surveillance, but Beijing denied the claim, saying it was a privately owned weather monitoring device that went adrift.
