US government disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci said on March 20, 2020, that the United States was still in the “escalation phase” of the coronavirus outbreak. The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was speaking during a live-streamed interview with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Fauci said the length of time it will take to bring the US outbreak under control is “very much dependent upon how successfully we do containment and mitigation.” Facebook executives say they are pushing to put Covid-19 information from established health authorities front and center on the platform in an effort to mitigate potentially dangerous misinformation as the global pandemic spreads.
