The US and China launched a working group to tackle fentanyl trafficking during a meeting in Beijing on January 30, 2024. The cooperation followed an agreement during a China-US presidential summit in November 2023 to cut fentanyl production and export. The highly potent synthetic opioid has caused a large number of overdose deaths in the US, and continues to ravage much of the country’s young population.
