White House special climate envoy John Kerry and China’s chief climate negotiator Xie Zhenhua met for more than four hours on July 17, 2023. The meeting in Beijing was held as the world’s two biggest greenhouse gas emitters seek to reopen channels of communication amid heightened bilateral tensions. Kerry started a four-day visit to the Chinese capital on July 16.
