Accident and emergency departments in England have recorded their worst performance since current records began in 2004.

One in six patients waited longer than the four hour target in October and the target for starting cancer treatment was missed for the 46th month in a row. The total number of people waiting for routine operations is now nearly 4 and a half million.

The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn described the figures as ‘disgraceful’ — and blamed the problems on a lack of staff and funding. But the Prime minister said they were a result of the huge demand, being placed on the National Health Service.

Meanwhile immigration has been discussed by the main political parties today and Labour has announced plans to nationalise broadband services.

Sophie Raworth presents this evening’s News at Ten with contributions from Health Editor Hugh Pym, Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg, Home Editor Mark Easton, Political Correspondent Iain Watson and Business Editor Simon Jack.
