The US Senate leader, Mitch McConnell, says his fellow Republicans may not have the votes to block witnesses from testifying at Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
Alaska’s Republican Senator, Lisa Murkowski, has said she may, at some point, vote to allow witnesses testimony.
She says she is committed to delivering impartial justice and has at times diverged from her colleagues.
Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine have been critics of Trump in the past, but Murkowski has perhaps been the most vocal.
