Semiconductor manufacturing giant TSMC inaugurated its first plant in Japan, as part of efforts to revitalise the country’s once cutting-edge semiconductor industry. Located in Kumamoto prefecture and surrounded by tech giants like Sony, the plant signifies a strategic investment in Japan’s technological landscape, with plans for Japan to help the Taiwan semiconductor giant build a second chip-fabrication plant starting from the end of 2024.
