With three months left in 2022, Australia’s largest city Sydney has already recorded its wettest year, with 2,213 millimetres (87 inches) of rain. More downpours are expected as the city is forecast to experience major flooding. Scientists link the unusual event to a warmer climate and the La Nina phenomenon, which is happening for three consecutive years in the Australian east coast.
