A record winter heatwave has put many ski resorts in the Swiss Alps out of business as a shortage of snow is making it impossible for sports aficionados to enjoy the region’s famed slopes. On January 1, 2023, the maximum temperature in the region was 20.9 degrees Celsius (70°F), the highest ever for this time of the year.
