The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Singapore has reached 1,000 after the city state recorded its largest single-day spike in cases yet on April 1, 2020. Among 74 new cases reported that day, over 50 were local infections. On March 27, Singapore announced strict new laws to reinforce social distancing, banning gatherings of more than 10 people. Individuals who knowingly queue up less than one metre (3 feet) apart face fines of up to US$6,950 or six months in jail.
