NDIS and Government Services Minister Bill Shorten has questioned the criticism of modest support for JobSeeker recipients, stating, “if he’s having a ‘crack’, a bit of modest support, to me, doesn’t seem wrong.”

Mr Shorten contrasts this with the more generous backing provided to those benefiting from negative gearing on multiple properties.

“I’d say that there’s a lot of people who periodically receive government payments for actually doing their very best to make ends meet and to work,” Mr Shorten told Sky News Australia.

“Why is it that it’s the people at the bottom of the heap are the ones that everyone gets upset about receiving some money.”
