Oscar-winning Japanese composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto has died at the age of 71. Sakamoto’s management team released a statement on April 2, 2023, that the composer had passed away the week before, on March 28. Sakamoto had reportedly been undergoing treatment for cancer since June 2020, but the musician continued to create works in his home studio whenever his health would allow.
