Russian TV journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who staged an on-air protest against her country’s invasion of Ukraine, confirmed on October 5, 2022, that she has fled her pretrial house arrest. The 44-year-old mother was detained for allegedly spreading fake news about the armed forces after calling Putin a “murderer” and his soldiers “fascists”. The reporter could face up to 10 years in jail if found guilty.
