Russia’s first lunar mission in 47 years failed to land on the moon, as Luna-25 spacecraft lost contact and crashed into the moon’s surface after a problem occurred when it entered pre-landing orbit on August 15, 2023. The failed attempt underscored the decline of Russia’s space programme, which was once during the Cold War.
