Sony’s first-generation robot dogs AIBOs were given a warm farewell at Japan’s Kofukuji Temple in Isumi, Chiba Prefecture. After Sony ceased its production of AIBOs & stopped offering support updates to the ageing ones, owners of ‘dead’ mechanical pets started sending them to the electronics repair company A-Fun, which uses some of the dogs’ parts to fix other defective robots. However, before the beloved robotic dogs are put to use, the company honours them with a compassionate send-off at the Buddhist temple.
