Stargazers took advantage of their last chance in several years to see a blue supermoon. The rare astral event occurred on August 30, 2023, as the month’s second full moon coincided with the time when it was closest to the Earth. It was also the closest full moon of the year, just some 357,344km (222,043 miles) away. According to Nasa, only three per cent of full moons are blue moons, and the time between blue supermoons can be as long as 20 years. The next time the phenomenon will occur will be in 2037.
