On The Newshour – Agenda with Padmaja Joshi, Today Rahul Gandhi finally gave a public resignation. He stepped down from the post of Congress president in a 4-page declaration and he listed out the reasons for this decision. He took full responsibility for the Congress party’s loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections but a plain reading of his resignation letter suggests that it is a big sham. Rahul Gandhi in the note talks about empowering the group to pick his successor as if he is a supreme commander who will continue to chart the course of his succession even though he has quit, and on the other hand, the leaders of his own party are still in complete and utter denial, calling him still the Supreme Leader.

We ask – Doesn’t the resignation letter strike a patronizing tone and the arrogance of being a dynast? Does Rahul Gandhi believe that he is the supreme leader of the Congress party that he dictates terms even after his exit as president? Has the ’empowered’ reference exposed the entitlement of the Gandhi family over the Congress party? Isn’t Rahul Gandhi’s resignation a ‘sham’ when he can empower a panel to pick the next president when he has clearly stepped out of office? Watch to know more.
