Tens of thousands of mourners have turned up to pay their last respects to former Pope Benedict XVI, who died on December 31, 2022, at the age of 95. Pope Francis presided over his funeral ceremony in St Peter’s Square in Vatican City on January 5, 2023, becoming the first pope to preside over a requiem for a former pontiff.
