The recent corona virus outbreak makes the city of Wuhan in China considered a source of the spread of the virus. Correspondents report that the corona virus originated from animals sold at the Huanan Seafood Market located in Wuhan.

Reporting from the South China Morning Post, the market has been closed since late December since the virus broke out.

Apparently a little different from its name, the Huanan Seafood Market not only sells seafood, but also a variety of wild animals.

A picture containing a menu list uploaded by a shop owner in Dazhong Dianping, the most popular review and rating application in China, shows that there are about 100 kinds of animals available at the Huanan Seafood Market. Ranging from foxes, wolf cubs, to masked mongoose.

The photo which was then uploaded to Twitter by the owner of the @muyixiao account on January 21, 2020 shows there are around 100 live animals and animal meat for sale.

Listed there, including live koalas, giant Chinese salamanders, ostriches, ostriches, peacocks, and cubs.

In the reply column, a Twitter user with an @CIASpy account translates the menu list along with the price. Reporting from Mothership Singapore, he wrote that live peacocks are sold for 500 Chinese renminbi.

Then, for the sika deer valued at 6,000 Chinese renminbi. There is also a living koala that is valued at 70 Chinese renminbi.

The menu offers not only live animals, but also slaughter and shipping services.

Most shops in the Huanan Seafood Market do sell crabs, shrimp, and various fish.

However, in the corner of the market, there are many unusual consumption animals that are traded. A local resident named Ai said that he saw several shop owners selling live animals at the market.

“There are turtles, snakes, rats, porcupines and pheasants,” Ai told the South China Morning Post.

He also added that many shops in the western part of the market were selling live animals.

A warning letter from the Wuhan Administration for Industry and Commerce last September also showed the presence of live animals on the market.

In the warning, the government has inspected about eight shops selling tiger frogs, snakes and porcupines.

Markets that sell live or dead animals of several different species at once are quite easy to find in China, for example in the provinces of Guangdong, Guangzhou and Shandong. Chinese people still often eat wild exotic animals.

Corona virus outbreak itself has reached several countries, such as Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, America and Vietnam.

Wuhan City is currently quarantined and reportedly there are no residents’ activities taking place there.
