At least 2,000 Hong Kong residents of Pakistani origin have been left stranded in Pakistan due to travel restrictions put in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic. On April 29, 2020, nearly 200 of the Hongkongers flew back to the city on their own, on flights that allowed them to transit in Doha, Qatar. The next day, another 319 were repatriated to Hong Kong on a government-chartered flight. However many still have not been able to make it back to Hong Kong, with some saying they want to avoid being quarantined at government centres and others admitting they are unable to afford flights back.
