Zionist Federation of Australia President Jeremy Leibler has labelled pro-Palestinian rallies in Sydney as “terrifying” and “incomprehensible”.

“There aren’t really other words to describe it,” Mr Leibler told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

Mr Leibler’s remarks come after the NSW Police allowed an unauthorized anti-Israel, pro-Hamas rally to go ahead despite no application being filed and despite the fact those present chanted “gas the Jews”.

“I’m a second-generation holocaust survivor; I come from a family of holocaust survivors … and I grew up very much under the shadow of the holocaust and the notion that I would have to explain to my children that there are people walking the streets of Sydney yelling ‘gas the Jews’ is just incomprehensible,” Mr Leibler said.

“I have no doubt that the police’s intentions were well, perhaps to protect any Jewish members of the community that would be nearby – but that’s not acceptable.”
