The Australian Financial Review’s Phil Coorey says while the Labor government is planning to change the stage three tax cuts, there is “no talk of abolishing them”.

“Trim them down at the top end so everyone still gets a bit but not as much as you possibly would have got,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

Mr Coorey said when Labor were in opposition, they wrangled with whether they should support the tax cuts and have “never believed in them”.

“They felt compelled to vote for them after the ’19 election loss because Scott Morrison linked the stage three legislation with the stage two legislation,” he said.

“Instead of standing their ground, they said: ‘oh let’s wave them through’.”
