Italy’s highest volcano Mount Etna in Catania erupted in the early hours of Wednesday, spewing lava and plumes of gas into the sky.

Etna, which is the largest of Italy’s three active volcanoes and the biggest in Europe, sits at 3,330 metres high (11,000 ft).
