Karl Marx famously claimed that it’s the being that determines consciousness rather than vice versa – a maxim that Russian city planners have recently taken to heart with a much greater eagerness than their Soviet predecessors. As the wave of urban make-overs moves across the country, will the change in the way the Russians live affect how they think?
