An Indian government official has been slammed for draining more than two million litres of water from a reservoir to find a Samsung phone worth approximately $1,200.

Rajesh Vishwas dropped his phone in the reservoir while trying to take a selfie.

“The part about this story that I just did not get, Liz – it was a Samsung,” Sky News host James Macpherson said.

“Why would you bother for a Samsung? For an iPhone, sure, empty the dam, but for a Samsung, just let it be.”
