Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida kicked of a tour of the Middle East on July 16, 2023, in Saudi Arabia, with stops expected in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Tokyo imports most of its crude oil, with a third coming from Saudi Arabia. Riyadh meanwhile is looking to Tokyo in its push towards developing clean fuel and reducing emissions.
