Dozens of passengers were hurt when a Latam Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland dipped violently on March 11, 2024. The Chilean carrier said its Boeing 787 Dreamliner experienced an unspecified “technical event” while flying from Australia to New Zealand. New Zealand authorities said it would seize the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, adding that Chilean authorities had confirmed they had opened a probe into the incident. It came as the pilot reportedly told those on board that he temporarily lost control of the plane after one of its instruments failed.
