Indonesian President Joko Widodo has issued a call for Asean unity to resolve the Myanmar crisis. Widodo made the remarks on May 11, 2023, as Indonesia hosts the annual Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) leaders’ summit. He admitted that Asean so far has failed to enforce the deal agreed to by Myanmar to end the violence that has wracked the country since the military junta seized control from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in a February 2021 coup.
