Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai’s national security trial began on December 18, 2023, more than three years after he was arrested. Lai is the most prominent figure to be prosecuted under the national security law imposed on Hong Kong by Beijing in 2020 to ban acts of secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces.
