A group of Pakistani nationals fled Sudan on April 30, 2023, as the war-torn country entered a third week of fighting. Evacuees said they felt a mix of relief and sadness about leaving the country. Rival leaders of Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces reportedly agreed to extend a ceasefire by 72 hours on April 30, but the sound of gunfire was still heard across the capital Khartoum as each side blamed the other for violating the truce.
