Hundreds of people gathered outside the Jamia Millia Islamia university in New Delhi on December 29 to protest against a controversial citizenship law and police action during the nationwide demonstrations that began early December. Police allegedly attacked students inside the Jamia Millia Islamia university’s campus two weeks ago. The recently-passed bill will grant citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from neighbouring countries who entered India illegally before 2015. It was criticised for being discriminatory towards India’s 200 million Muslims.
