Chu Lui and Wong Kit-leung were suddenly left homeless for the first time in their lives after the Hong Kong government imposed 14-day quarantines on all travellers from the mainland. The measures to fight Covid-19 were imposed February 8, 2020, and include Hongkongers like Chu and Wong, who lost their jobs as the pandemic took a toll on the economy. They were unable to keep paying rents in Shenzhen, the mainland Chinese city bordering Hong Kong, where they had enjoyed lower living expenses. But their decision to return to their home city has left them in despair.
