American singer Elvis Presley is widely known as the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, but in China, fans call him the “King of Cats”.
He was also an actor, making his big-screen debut on November 15, 1956, with Love Me Tender.
Forty-two years after his death, “the King” lives on at the Hong Kong Elvis Presley Fan Club, one of an estimated 450 official international fan clubs.
The South China Morning Post recently spoke with Helen Ma, who co-founded the Hong Kong club in 1968.
She still serves as its president, organising events like a September 2019 anniversary show featuring “Elvis of Macau” Rudy Souza and other impersonators.
