A children’s clothing store inside a Tsuen Wan mall has refused an order to take down a pro-democracy statue. A line of customers was seen outside the store on June 18, 2020, after news spread that the D Park mall that housed the store asked for the statue to be taken down. The landlord, Discovery Park Commercial Services Ltd, cited a contract clause that said decorations needed approval and holding “an exhibition” without a licence may be in breach of the law and going beyond the purpose of the tenancy. The founder of the brand Chickeeduck and owner of the store, Herbert Chow Siu-lung, said he did not violate his lease agreement and the statue was installed for a Father’s Day promotional event that teaches young kids democratic values.
