Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews met the “ultimate test” for a politician.

“That is the electoral test, and he met it time and time again,” Mr Clennell said.

Mr Clennell’s remarks come after the Victorian Premier announced his resignation after almost nine years in the top job and will take effect from 5pm on Wednesday.

The Victorian Labor caucus will decide on who will be Mr Andrews’ successor, likely to be Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan.

“It is a historic day, it’s a massive day,” Mr Clennell said.
