France stressed China’s important peacekeeping role in mediating Russia’s invasion in Ukraine during a meeting between foreign ministers on May 10, 2023. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that Beijing should help convince Russia to respect the United Nations Charter, while her Chinese counterpart Qin Gang reaffirmed Beijing’s position on a political settlement in Ukraine and called on their two countries to increase cooperation.
