China has announced that it will double government subsidies for consumers who trade in conventional cars for electric vehicles (EVs). The increase to 20,000 yuan (US$2,770) per vehicle is about twice as much as the subsidy announced in April 2024. Experts say the latest increase announced in July 2024 appears to be an attempt to drive another surge in car deliveries.
