Democrat congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has been blasted for suggesting Black swing state voters preferring Donald Trump over Joe Biden are doing so based on feelings and not understanding “how any of this works”.

Ms Crockett’s remarks come in response to a New York Times report that highlighted a shift in support, especially among Black voters, with 22 per cent favouring Trump in certain swing states.

During an interview on CNN, Crockett claimed that voters’ feelings and perceptions, rather than facts, were shaping their views, leading them to prefer Trump’s presidency.

“Here’s the deal, perception is reality, and so when you look at the data that was provided in this poll, it talks about how people feel… it is all about how you feel in that moment,” she said.

“While the facts may not align with their feelings, their feelings are dictating their reality, and their reality is that they feel better or they felt better when Trump was in office.”

Crockett also pointed out a lack of understanding about politics and misinformation as reasons for the changing opinions among Black voters.

“So we have got a couple of things: the perception issue and then we also have an issue as it relates to civics in this country and people not understanding exactly how any of this works,” she concluded.

Crockett’s remarks caused outrage on social media, with many people, including Black conservatives, slamming her for implying Blacks voters are “too stupid” to understand.

“In other words, according to Democrat @RepJasmine Crockett, Blacks are too stupid to understand how much better they are under Biden,” conservative commentator and former 2024 presidential hopeful Larry Elder wrote on X.

“Not too bigoted! If Trump said this, Democrats would be drawing up another article of impeachment.”
