As industrial relations in Britain are at their most fractious since 1989, recent data from the Office for National Statistics shows wages rising faster than expected but still not keeping pace with inflation.
On one side workers are demanding pay rises that match price growth; on the other, the government warns that higher pay rises could make the problem worse.
