The United States (US), France, and Russia are preparing to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, following the increasingly widespread spread of new coronavirus originating from the city.

Death rates from the Wuhan virus skyrocketed on Sunday (1/26), with 56 fatalities according to the Chinese National Commission’s records.

This deadly virus infected 1975 people in mainland China, and 2,022 across the universe. The number jumped sharply in 24 hours, from 15 deaths and 688 cases infected with the virus.

Not wanting anything worse to happen, the US State Department has confirmed it will repatriate its personnel from the Wuhan Consulate.

The US State Department also offers a limited number of seats to US citizens on flights to San Fransiaco, which will depart on Tuesday (1/28). Individuals who are most at risk for coronavirus, will get priority.

Meanwhile, France is considering bus services to evacuate its citizens from Wuhan. For this purpose, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up emergency telephone lines.

Russia is also preparing to take steps. As quoted by the South China Morning Post on Sunday (1/26), the Ria News Agency reported that the Russian government had consulted with Beijing to evacuate its citizens. Either from Wuhan, or other cities in Hubei Province.

At present, 30 provinces in China that report cases of the Wuhan virus in their territory have put the status of Standby I on. This is intended to stop the spread of the virus, which can lead to severe pneumonia.

Access to transportation in Chinese cities is now also increasingly restricted.

Shantou, a city in the southern part of Guangdong Province, is the last city to shut down transportation access, starting Monday (1/27) tomorrow.
