Mental health in Hong Kong, already suffering from months of anti-government protests, is worsening because of the spread of the new coronavirus that causes Covid-19. Research done in 2019 had already found that mental health among people in the city was at its worst level in eight years. Health experts are concerned that the situation has only worsened as the deadly outbreak piles on stress and anxiety and people remain isolated at home as part of measures to stop the infection from spreading.
