South Korea’s president announced the country is on its ‘highest alert’ after a dramatic spike in coronavirus infections on February 23, 2020. The Korea Centres for Disease and Control and Prevention reported 169 new confirmed coronavirus cases and three new deaths. Nearly two-thirds of the new patients are linked to a religious sect in the southeastern city of Daegu. Church services were cancelled in the city, and churchgoers in other parts of South Korea also expressed concern over the disease. There are a total of 602coronavirus cases confirmed in South Korea, making it the second-highest outside of mainland China.
