Beijing reopened the Xiaotangshan hospital on March 16, 2020, to cope with Covid-19 cases imported into China. The facility was rushed together in about a week in 2003, and was used to care for people infected with another deadly coronavirus – the one which causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars). China has announced that all international arrivals to the Chinese capital must be quarantined for 14 days. Those showing symptoms such as fever or cough will be transferred to the reinstated hospital for quarantine and screening.
