China refuses to repatriate thousands of US citizens

Thousands of Chinese citizens involved in illegal acts in the US are being repatriated by Beijing.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) said on June 26 that the White House mentioned China in an important strategic report last month,

accused Beijing of violating its commitment and posing a security risk to the American community.

Specifically, many Chinese citizens have committed crimes in the United States, after serving a prison term and being ordered to deport, but the Chinese Embassy refuses to cooperate to repatriate its citizens.

For example, the case of Mr. Xiaofei “Eddy” Zheng, moved from Guangzhou – China to California – USA at the age of 12.

He joined Asian gangs, convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping at the age of 16.

In 2005, Zheng left San Quentin Prison, and was deported to his country by the US authorities.

But the Chinese embassy said there was no evidence that Zheng was a Chinese citizen, so he refused Washington’s request.

According to SCMP, China is one of 10 countries and regions – including Eritrea, Iran, Pakistan and Cuba – to be listed as a special category by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) due to the non-cooperative action.

According to international regulations, countries need to approve visitors, including their own citizens, if eligible.

Meanwhile, the airline will not allow passengers to board without valid documents.

And Beijing often excuses “inadequate papers, fake passports and related people who are not Chinese nationals” to refuse them to return home.

A senior State Department official said that China does not have much incentive to cooperate with the US,

especially when the two sides fought a trade war and Washington accused Beijing of causing the Covid-19 pandemic to spread globally.

In addition, analysts say China does not appear to want to welcome criminals and lawbreakers.

Instead, the list they were waiting for included “selective” corrupt and criminal officials.
