China has made a significant economic impact on most of the African continent, as part of its Belt and Road Initiative to connect the world through infrastructure and trade. Although projects like the Lake Kivu highway in Rwanda bring jobs and tourism, reliance on Chinese loans often comes at a cost. African nations have cancelled or postponed Belt and Road projects in recent years over rising debt concerns.
