Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s victory in Brazil’s run-off election is likely to boost ties with China, Brazil’s top trading partner, and the BRICS countries, according to analysts. The 77-year-old former two-term president narrowly defeated far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro on October 30, 2022. Beijing congratulated Lula on his election win, saying that it is ready to strengthen their partnership “to a new level”.
