China and Australia held high-level talks for the first time in 3 years on September 7, 2023. Relations between the countries continue to thaw following Australia’s election of a centre-left Labor government in 2022. That comes on the same day Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he had a “frank and constructive discussion” with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on the sidelines of the Asean summit in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta.
